C/s assessment and care Flashcards
Cesarean Assessment:
The fundus is checked gently by walking the fingers from the side of the uterus to the midline
Postpartum Shower
The patient should be evaluated for ambulatory ability, and the abdominal dressing and infusion site should be covered with a waterproof cover. The patient should be provided a shower chair and positioned with her back to the water stream.
C/s Care
Teach women to keep the surgical incision clean, dry, and open to air.
A peripad may be placed over the incision to decrease moisture if needed.
Instruct women to notify their health care provider if they have signs of infection such as redness, if they experience excessive drainage or bleeding, or if the wound is not well approximated. (Sherpath)
The surgical wound should be kept dry at all times to prevent infections. This can be achieved by drying the wound with the help of a hair dryer at a low setting. The wound should be washed several times a day with soapy water to prevent infection and promote healing. The sutures should not be removed for some time to prevent wound disruption, which is a common problem in an obese patient. The wound should be left open to dry for some time to prevent the formation of moisture and promote better healing.
