Oral Reprimand;
Chief or superior officer may reprimand or admonish for minor infractions of rules/regs. At Chief’s discretion, a record may be entered into the individuals personnel file.
Written Reprimand;
Chief may issue a written reprimand for minor infractions of dept. rules/regs. Letter will become a permanent record on personnel file.
Supervisor’s- Duty to Report;
All superior officers must report all offenses/violations of rules and regulations by officers/employees under their command to the Chief through the chain of command.
Violations of Regulations;
Failure to obey them, regardless of motive, is sufficient cause for corrective action.
Purpose of Hearings and Investigations;
the object of dept hearings and internal investigations is to find the truth in order to protect the integrity of the dept.,
Knowledge of Regulations;
Must be knowledgeable of all regulations, failure to be aware of a specific regulation will not constitute a defense in any hearing.
Correction and Admonition;
All Supervisors have the duty to administer timely correction and/or admonition to subs of their command when and where necessary to maintain discipline, efficiency and good order. This is not considered Punitive in nature. It is intended to prevent for more severe corrective measures. This will not bar future proceedings if needed.
Official Repremand;
CO’s of all divisions/units may w/o formal hearing, RECOMMEND official reprimands for minor violations of regulations, orders or instructions where the good of the dept/individual appear to be best served. Official reprimand will be administered by the chief and will be entered into record. A copy will be given to the officer.
All Officers-Duty to Report;
If you have knowledge that another has been guilty of any of the offenses set out in the regulations, they have a sworn duty and will make a written complaint to the CO of the member accused or to the chief.
Right to Disciplinary Action Review;
right of officers to the appeals process in accordance w/ the LEO Bill of Rights/collective bargaining agreement. Employee’s may appeal discipline through their CBA and applicable rules and regs.
Suspension Provisions;
while under suspension, will not wear the uniform or insignia of their rank, except during trial and will surrender all police dept property to their superior on demand.
Intercession Forbidden;
Officer/employee under suspension will not cause or procure any person to intercede or interfere, in any way, w/ director of public safety or any member of the dept, or any person who maybe a witness against them.
