10.2 is the Case Name rule. R. 10.2.1 applies to abbreviation of case names whether in text or citations and R. 10.2.2 applies to case names in citation sentences.

R. 10.2.1 applies to case names in citation sentences and case names in textual sentences. Some of the rules in 10.2.1 apply to only 1) using the last name of a party, how to handle procedural phrases, 2) how to handle widely-known abbreviations in case names; 3) how to handle geographical terms as party names, 4) how to handle business term designations in party names like “inc.”, “llc.” and more.
What does R. 10.3 apply to?
Reporters and Other Sources. Among other things it points us to T1 for reporter abbreviations and to R 6.1(a) [rule on spacing in abbreviations.]

What does R. 10.2.1(f) apply to? What does it say?
R. 10.2.1 applies to the abbreviation of GEOGRAPHICAL TERMS in case names. Among other things, it says to omit “State of” “Commonwealth” and “people of” except when citing decisions of the court of that state, and in those cases keep only “State” “Commonwealth” or “People.”

Which rule applies to the abbreviation of business designations in case names? What does the rule say?
R. 10.2.1(h). It says to drop the designations like “Inc.” or “LLC” if the case name also includes other specific words like “Co.” or “Ins.” clearing indicating that party is a business name.

R. 10.2.1(f). Among other things, it says to omit “State of” “Commonwealth” and “people of” except when citing decisions of the court of that state, and in those cases keep only “State” “Commonwealth” or “People.” It also says to drop “of America” after “United States”.
