Why alter the path of insertion?
To eradicate soft tissue undercuts
if there are large soft tissue undercuts you will have black gaps if you do not alter path
What is the definition of DIRECT retention?
The resistance to VERTICAL displacement of a denture
What is the definition of INDIRECT retention?
The resistance to ROTATIONAL displacement of a denture
What is the definition of support?
The resistance to occlusally directed load
What is minimum length for cobalt chrome clasp?
15mm
What is undercut needed for CoCr, gold and SS?
- 25mm
- 5mm
- 75mm
What is the purpose of surveying?
Allows you to begin to design denture - need to find undercuts before you can design.
Highlights undercut areas that can be utilised by clasps.
What do survey lines indicate?
The survey lines show the maximum bulbosity of the tooth. Anything below the line is an undercut.
What is the purpose of tripoding?
Allows you to take the cast off the surveyor and put it back on to survey at the same path of insertion.
What is the common path of insertion?
Path that the denture is inserted
What is the common path of displacement?
Taken at 90 degrees to the occlusal plane (horizontal).
