Perio Questions Flashcards
What are some problems with BPE?
Only gives score for deepest pocket in sextant so you can’t tell if periodontitis is generalised or local
What is a BPE?
Screening tool used to identify disease status
Aids treatment planning
When is a BPE carried out?
Done for ALL patients on first visit
What is a 6PPC? And what does it allow you to do?
Measurement of health of gingiva and bone and measure depth of gingival sulcus.
- Aids definitive diagnosis
- Assess scale of periodontal disease
- Plan treatment
- Gives baseline for assessing success of treatment outcome.
When is a 6PPC carried out?
Full after score 4, partial after score 3 only in that sextant.
How do you record a 6PPC?
use a PCP-12 probe
- patient name, CHI, date
- Record missing teeth
- Measure gingival margin relative to ACJ
- Measure pocket depth
- Measure bleeding
- Measure tooth mobility
- Measure furcation involvement
What are some problems with a 6PPC?
Inaccurate pocket depths/ variable between clinicians
Patient sensitivity
Length of time
Why do you use water with ultrasonic?
High vibrations can cause friction and therefore damage the pulp via heat transfer but the water acts as a coolant to avoid this is you also keep the tip moving constantly
What is PCP-12 probe?
Used for 6PPC
12 mm in length
black marks at 3-6mm and 9-12mm
What is WHO probe?
Used for BPE
0.5mm black round ball on end
Black marks at 3.5-5.5mm and 8.5-11.5mm.
What are the mobility gradings?
0 - none
1 - mobility less than 1mm bucco-lingually
2 - mobility between 1-2mm bucco-lingually
3 - mobility more than 2mm in a horizontal and vertical direction
What are the grades of furcation involvement?
1 - probe goes <3mm into furcation
2 - probe goes >3mm into furcation
3 - through and through
What is a modified plaque and bleeding scores purpose?
Used to determine patient engagement
When is a MPBS carried out?
NOT first appt.
Every appt. following this
What are the ramfjord’s teeth?
The teeth used in MBPS. Gives overview of mouth.
16, 21, 24, 36, 41, 44
