Bulge behind maxillary 2nd molars
Hamular notch
Notch behind tuberosity at junction of maxilla and
hamular process of sphenoid
Vibrating line
Where hard and soft palate meet
Fovea palatine
Sits just behind vibrating line - plays a role in gag reflex
Palatine raphe
Line that runs down centre of palate
Palatine rugae
Wrinkles at anterior of hard palate
Incisive papillae
Small pear-shaped elevation of tissue just behind two front teeth
Retromolar pad
Elevation distal to mandibular 2nd molars.
Non-keratinised extension of the pear shaped pad
Buccal shelf
Area between buccal frenulum and anterior border of the masseter
Mandibular tori
Abnormal bony prominence
Mylohyoid ridge
Prominence on lingual surface of mandible where mylohyoid nerve runs alongside
Pterygomandibular raphe
Fibrous band of tissue that stretches from back of the upper last molar to bottom of lower
Site of Local Anaesthetic
Pear-shaped pad
Scarring - keratinised tissue that only occurs if the most distal molar has been removed.
