How are morbidity statistics collected?
Doctor completes certificate of cause
‘Informant’ takes certificate to local registrar and registers death
Copy of registration sent to ONS where causes of death are coded
ONS compile and publish mortality statistics

What does WHO define the underlying cause of death as?
a) the diseae or injury that initiated the tain of events directly leading to death or
b) the circumstances of the accident or violence that produced the fatal injury
what code are death certificates converted into?
Converted into code using the ICD-10
Has chapters and within each chapter, section with codes
What is quality of data split into?

Is the quality of mortality data good?
Its legally required
system not hard, easy to get right
Not always accurate classification
What is the incidence of a disease?
number of new cases in a particular population during a particular time interval
