Q

BIM Caution Light

A

Indication - if the light remains on illuminated with the circuit breaker in and EMI is not verified

  1. airspeed - 80KIAS, minimize maneuvering
  2. Altitude - minimum safe
  3. no3 primary ac BIM circuit break - check in
  4. land as soon as practical

Q

Suspected Rotor Damper Failure

A

Indications - low-frequency beat or lateral vibration

  1. make small, smooth control inputs
  2. slowly increase main rotor RPM
  3. slowly reduce airspeed to 80KIAS
  4. use small bank angles
  5. land as soon as practical
  6. if vibrations become excessive - land as soon as possible
    • NOTE - a shallow approach to a running landing is preferable

Q

Tail Rotor Drive System Failure (Hover and Takeoff)

A
  1. Collective - reduce (if altitude permits) to initiate a moderate rate of descent and retard yaw rate
  2. Airspeed - as required (land level attitude)
  3. Pickle - as desired
  4. Speed control levers - shutoff at 5-20 feet AGL
  5. Collective - increase to cushion the landing

Q

Tail Rotor Drive System Failure (Cruise)

A
  1. Collective - reduce (enough to stop fuselage rotation)
  2. Airspeed - 100-120KIAS
  3. Pickle - as desired
  4. Speed Control Levers - as required
  5. Rudder Pedals - centered
    • WARNING - if the tail rotor/gear box have departed the aircraft, auto will be necessary. CG will shift forward, pilot must be cautious during flare.
      • if steps 1-5 are unsuccessful in regaining directional control
  6. immediately enter autorotation. consider leaving SCLs full forward. flare and arrest rate of descent. complete a landing using TR Drive System Failure (Hover)

Q

Tail Rotor Drive System Failure during Towing, Streaming, or Recovery of AMCM Equipment

A
  1. Collective - reduce/disengage RADALT hold
  2. tension - reduce to minimize ground speed
    • NOTE - do not release tow
  3. Speed Control Levers - shutoff at 5-20ft AGL
  4. Collective - increase (cushion landing)

Q

Pylon Unsafe for Flight Light

A

indications - PYLON UNSAFE FOR FLIGHT light, or the extension/cycling of the tail rotor disengage flag

  1. if accompanied by abnormal vibration, noise in the tail section, or yaw kicks - land immediately
  2. if not accompanied by these indications - land as soon as possible. minimize tail rotor stress, minimize control inputs, execute a no hover landing if possible.
    • WARNING - PYLON UNSAFE FOR FLIGHT light may be accompanied by loss of AFCS servos upon touchdown
    • NOTE - the master caution light does not come on with the PYLON UNSAFE FOR FLIGHT light

Q

Uncommanded Ground Spin

A
  1. apply rudder pedal in opposite direction of the spin
  2. collective - full down
  3. wheel brakes - apply
    • WARNING - any delay in shutting down aircraft if above steps do not work can lead to out of control spin or dynamic rollover
      • if the spin is not eliminated
  4. speed control levers - shutoff
