RoR, Atomic Theory - Unit 1 Flashcards
What is a compound ?
A substance made up of two or more elements that are chemically joined together
What are solvents, solutes, and solutions?
Solvent is where it went
Solute is what you put
Solution is what your producing
What is the gas test for Carbon dioxide?
Turns limewater cloudy
What is the gas test for hydrogen?
Burns with a squeaky pop
What is the gas test for oxygen?
Relights a glowing splint
What does the ending of -ide mean?
contains the two elements obvious from the name
What does the ending of -ite and -ate mean?
Contains the two elements obvious from the name and oxygen
How do you increase rate of reaction ?
Increase temperature, increase concentration, decrease particle size, addition of a catalyst
What is a catalyst?
Substances which speed up the rate of reaction without being used up by the reaction
what does APE stand for?
Atomic number = number of protons = number of electrons
What is the mass, charge, and location of a proton?
Mass = 1
Charge = +1
Location = nucleus
What is the mass, charge, and location of a neutron?
Mass = 1
Charge = neutral
Location - nucleus
What is the mass, charge, and location of an electron?
Mass = negligible
charge = -1
Location - energy levels
How can the number of neutrons be found ?
Mass number - Atomic number
How can mass number be found?
Protons + Neutrons
