inferior - superior thoracic aperture
subclavian artery
lies below clavicle
blood supply to upper extremities and head/neck

vertebral, thyrocervical trunk, internal thoracic artery, costocervical trunk
brachiocephalic vein branches
IJV and subclavian vein
sympathetic trunk
preganglionic sympathetic fibres
posterior to ICA and CCA
sympathetic trunk / cervical ganglia supplies….
regulates sympathetic innervation of eyelids, eyes, lacrimal glands, carotid body, salivary glands, sweat glands
Horner’s Syndrome
damage to cervical sympathetic trunk
caused by blockage or damage to sympathetic nerves that lead to eyes
Horner’s syndrome symptoms
constriction of pupil
drooping of superior eyelid
vasodilation and absence of sweating
blockage of cervical sympathetic trunk could be because of
pancoast tumours - apex of the lung
prevertebral muscles in the root of the neck
anterior, middle and posterior scalene
