ROM The Fingers Flashcards
ROM: MCP flexion
Test position: sitting with forearm resting on supporting surface. Neutral position.
Stabilization: metacarpals to prevent wrist motion- do not hold other fingers in extension
Alignment:
Axis- dorsal aspect of MCP joint
Prox arm- dorsal midline of metacarpal
Distal arm- dorsal midline of proximal phalanx
End feel: hard or firm
Normal Finger ROM
Finger MCP flexion: 0-90 degrees Finger MCP extension: 0-45 degrees Finger MCP abd-add: 0-20 degrees Finger PIP flex-ext: 0-100 degrees Finger DIP flex-ext: 0-90 degrees
ROM: MCP extension
Test position: same as flexion
Stabilization: at metacarpal to prevent wrist motion
Alignment: same as flexion
End feel: firm
ROM: MCP Abduction
Test position: sitting with forearm resting on supporting surface, fully pronated, MCPs in 0 degrees extension and flexion
Stabilization: at metacarpals to prevent wrist motion
Alignment:
Axis- over dorsal aspect of MCP joint
Proximal arm- dorsal midline of metacarpal
Distal arm- dorsal midline of proximal phalanx
End feel: firm
ROM: PIP flexion
Test position: sitting with forearm and hand resting on table, all joints in neutral
Stabilization: proximal phalanx to prevent motion of wrist and MCP joint
Alignment:
Axis- over dorsal aspect of PIP joint
Prox arm- over dorsal midline of proximal phalanx
Distal arm- over dorsal midline of middle phalanx
End feel: usually hard
ROM: PIP Extension
Test position: same as flexion
Stabilization: same as flexion
Alignment: same as flexion
End feel: firm
ROM: DIP flexion
Test position: sitting with forearm and hand resting on table, PIP joint in 70-90 degrees of flexion
Stabilization: at middle and proximal phalanx to prevent further flexion of wrist, MCP, and PIP joints
Alignment:
Axis- over dorsal aspect of DIP joint
Prox arm: over dorsal midline of middle phalanx
Distal arm: dorsal midline of distal phalanx
End feel: firm
ROM: DIP Extension
Test position: same as DIP flexion
Stabilization: same as DIP flexion
Alignment: same as DIP flexion
End feel: firm
