Role of synapses Flashcards
1
Q
What are the three roles of synapses?
A
1) They ensure that impulses are unidirectional as the neurotransmitter receptors are only present on one membrane
2) They can allow an impulse from one neurone to be transmitted to a number of neurones at multiple synapses
- Therefore resulting in a single stimulus creating a number of simultaneous responses
3) A number of neurones may feed into the same synapse with a single postsynaptic neurone
- Results in stimuli from different receptors interacting to produce a single result
