Q

isotope

A

an atom that has the same number of protons (or the same atomic number) as other atoms of the same element do but that has a different number of neutrons (and thus a different atomic mass)

Q

Jurassic period

A

of, denoting, or formed in the second period of the Mesozoic era, between the Triassic and Cretaceous periods, lasting for 55 million years during which dinosaurs and ammonites flourished.

17
Q

cretaceous period

A

the period between 145.5 and 65.5 million years ago,* the last period of the Mesozoic Era, following the Jurassic and ending with the extinction of the dinosaurs (except birds).

18
Q

Devonian period

A

a geologic period and system of the Paleozoic, spanning 60 million years from the end of the Silurian, 419.2 million years ago (Mya), to the beginning of the Carboniferous, 358.9 Mya. It is named after Devon, England, where rocks from this period were first studied.

19
Q

Quaternary period

A

The Quaternary period is the name for the time in which we live. It spans the two most recent geologic epochs, the Pleistocene and the Holocene. Fossils from the Holocene epoch are like the animals living today, whereas Pleistocene fossils are much like living animals but with some differences.

20
Q

permain period

A

The Permian period lasted from 299 to 251 million years ago* and was the last period of the Paleozoic Era. The distinction between the Paleozoic and the Mesozoic is made at the end of the Permian in recognition of the largest mass extinction recorded in the history of life on Earth.
