Signs are divided into groups based on shape and colour. What does each shape mean?
Circular signs: orders.
–> If these are red, it is telling you what you must NOT do.
–> if these are blue, they are giving you an instruction.
Triangular signs: warnings
Rectangular signs: Info
Brown background: tourist info
What do lines across the middle of the road mean?
- Short broken lines: different lanes
- Longer broken lines: hazard ahead
- Double white lines with a solid white line on your side: MUST NOT CROSS
- White diagonal stripes: Protect traffic turning right
What do lines on the side of the road mean?
- White line: end of a carriage way
Yellow line: waiting and stopping restrictions
Zig zag lines: no stopping or parking at any time
What do lines across the road mean?
-Broken lines: give way
Solid line: stop
When can an arm signal be used?
Only used to strengthen a message eg
- Signalling to turn right in busy traffic
During what hours can the horn be not used?
11:30pm - 7am
What are contraflow lanes?
Lanes that flow in the opposite direction to most of the traffic
