Road safety (AOS_2) Flashcards
why is it targeted
- road safety is a preventative risk factor for deaths and injuries on the road, making health promotion possible
- it affects vulnerable population groups disproportionately: males, Indigenous Australians, those living outside major cities (due to levels of education on importance of road safety, higher levels of testosterone in males that encourages risk-taking behaviour)
effectiveness of the health promotion in improving pop. health
- there has been a significant decline in road deaths
- there had been an improvement in the safety of roads, vehicles and drivers

reorient health services: the TAC provides seminars to ambulance officers to raise awareness about road-related risks such as fatigue and drug-driving
