NDIS definition
A
- the NDIS is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) that provides services and support for Australians and permanent residents with permanent disabilities who are under the age of 65, as well as their families and carers, in order to help them live as normal a life as possible

NDIS funding
A
- the NDIS is funded by a 0.5% levy by the Commonwealth Government, raising the Medicare levy to 2.5%

NDIS advantages
A
- has individualised plans for those under the age of 65 with permanent disabilities
- is completely funded (i.e. no out-of-pocket costs)
- also helps their families and carers

NDIS limitations
A
- not all people with disabilities are eligible
- incurs an extra taxation levy
- can be quite a complicated process to receive approval into the scheme

A
- the 0.5% levy makes the scheme more financially sustainable
- was introduced in stages over 3 years (2013-2016) meaning it was tested in different places to ensure it was worth rolling out
