what is citizenship? what rights does the region have to a person’s citizenship?
- status of a person recognised under the law
- the region is free to determine whether they will recognise or withdraw a person’s citizenship

what is “right of abode” for hk?
right to enter HKSAR, free from any condition of stay, not to be deported/ removed
hk permanent residents include one of the following
6 points
- chinese national born in hk
- chinese national who have ordinarily resided in hk for a continuous period of not less than 7 years
- with chinese nationality born outside hk with (1)/(2) parents
- not chinese, entered hk with valid travel docs, has resided in hk continuously for not less than 7 years
- under 21 y/o, born in hk with (4) parents
- only had the right of abode in hk before estab of HKSAR
so basically chinese national born in hk, chinese national born outside of hk to chinese-hk parents, people who have lived in hk continously for 7+ yrs and their children, people who had the right of abode before hksar aka most old people
are hk non-permanent residents qualified to obtain hk identity card? do they have right of abode? (+but?) who must register for hk identity card?
- qualified to obtain hk identity card
- no right of abode but can legally stay for study/ work
- all 11+ resi living in hk for >180 days must register for hk identity card
