Right realism Flashcards
View on crime
Less concerned with the causes on crime and focuses on practical and realistic solutions for crime
Wilson and Herrnstein - biological differences
Crime is caused by biological and social reasons. e.g extraversion personality traits, poor socialisation and lack of role models
Murray - underclass
Crime is increasing due to a developing underclass of people who are reliant on the welfare state. This underclass fails to adequately socialise their children
Clarke - rational choice
Individuals have free will therefore, criminals choose to commit crime. Crime is increasing as the cost of crime is lower then the reward
View of tackling crime
The causes of crime are too difficult to tackle, therefore we should make criminal behaviour less attractive
e.g zero tolerance policy
EVAL
Overstates rationality of criminals
Ignores corporate and white collar crime.
Ignores wider causes of crime
