What were the causes and effects of the French and Indian War?
Causes - Carried over from the 7 years war between France and Britain
Effects - Britain becomes a world power, ends Salutary Neglect in U.S., eventually leads to American Revolution because of taxation
What were the causes and effects of the French Revolution?
Causes - Unequal voting and taxation (1st and 2nd Estates get benefits while 3rd gets none), wealth inequality (rich were very rich, poor couldn’t even afford bread)
Effects - leads to democracy that runs rampant (Reign of Terror, then Napoleon), Unstable governments in France until Congress of Vienna
What were the causes of the American Revolution?
Taxation without representation, end of Salutary Neglect, Declaration of Independence said King violated rights of U.S.
What does it mean for a government to have “checks and balances”?
Each branch of government checks over the others (veto power, having to go through approval of multiple branches); power of government is also spread over multiple branches (judicial, legislative, executive branches)
Who made up the 1st estate before the French Revolution? The 2nd? The 3rd?
1st - Clergy (church people)
2nd - Nobility
3rd - Peasants / Commoners

The right to vote

Period after the French Revolution where radical revolutionaries held public executions of anyone seen as against the revolution or revolutionary ideals
