Opening of the jaw or vowel height
Rounding of the lips
Position of the tongue or backness
The structure of a syllable

Clear l before vowels
Dark l elsewhere
Aspiration in voiceless stops /p,t,k/
Aspirated at the beginning of a stressed syllable (pot)
But not if they are preceded by /s/ (spot)
If they are followed by an approximant or a lateral there is no aspiration but the approximant is devoiced (play, try)
