What must a supervisor do
Take lead role managing employee rehab following absence due to illness/injury.
What is AEP
ACC’s Accredited Employer Programme (AEP) which means police is responsible for managing any workplace injuries.

- specific rehab and support for police
Reduced ACC levies
Who managers Non-work injury claims ?
ACC - however ACC have outsourced to GB if employee have more than 7 days off work.
NOTE that employee can choose to stay with ACC.
What is a work injury?
Injury that you or your team has suffered at work. Eg:
- accident/event
- work related disease/infection
- work related noise induced hearing loss
- work related mental health
Who is covered
Permanent employees
Fixed term employees
Casual employees
Do you need Medical Certificate
Yes - essential. GP/surgeon/specialists can issue med cert for workplace injuries.
Employee Responsibility
- Provide Med Certs to supervisor
- inform supervisor at earliest opportunity
- Available for rehab meetings and engage
- Keep supervisor informed of progress
- abide by agreed return to work
Employee rights for return to work
Right to expect Police to :
- comply with legislation
- keep in contact
- rehab info/plan
- give suitable accommodation to work in for rehab
- Support/resources
- support person at meeting allowed
The first 5 days you must -
- Advise WFM
- Work injury - fill out incident report within 48hrs (audit standard)
- Contact employee within 2 days
- Receive Med Certs for ACC absence (if illness then med cert needed if over 5 days)
- complete sick leave request and attach med cert if employee cant do it.
- arrange meaningful duties if cleared for light duties
10 days plus you must -
- keep WFM updated
- weekly contact with employee
- arrange meeting with employee and case mgr/ return to work adviser
- send agreed and signed Return to Work plan to RTW adviser. (Maura usually does this for us)
- med certs kept updated
