Resurrection Flashcards
What do Catholics believe about resurrection?
-The Catholic Church teaches that just as Jesus was raised from the dead, at the end of time the body will be raised and united with the soul and final judgment will be made.
-The final judgement is the judgement by God of the whole human race at the end of time
What evidence is there to back up the Catholic view on resurrection?
•The Gospels demonstrate the resurrection of Jesus as they state “he is risen” offering Catholics a hope of possibility in their own resurrection and eternal life after death through faith in Jesus Christ
How might the Catholic view on resurrection impact their life?
Catholics would pray to God thanking him for sending his son Jesus so they have the chance of eternal life forever in heaven
What does is 1 Corinthians 15?
•It is part of a letter written by St Paul to an early Christian community so they could understand key Christian beliefs about resurrection.
What does 1 Corinthians 15 teach about resurrection?
•it says “ if Christ has not been raised your faith is futile and you are still in your sins”
•This emphasises that the resurrection of Jesus is a central belief in Christianity and that the it is through the resurrection of Jesus that Christians can be forgiven their sins. if people reject the belief in resurrection, they also reject the resurrection of Jesus and eternal life at the end of time
Why might the belief in resurrection be weak?
•Some people believe that Jesus did not actually die on the cross.
•Some propose that the crucifixion pain induced a coma in Jesus, suggesting he wasn’t dead but unconscious in the tomb, leading disciples to mistake his awakening for resurrection.
