Humanists And The AfterLife Flashcards
What do Humanists believe about the AfterLife?
•Humanists do not believe in a God or any being who will guarantee life after death
•They believe that the only way in which a person can live on after death is through the memories that others have of them, through the ways that they have influenced the world or biologically through their children
What evidence is there to back up the humanist view about life after death?
•A popular humanist slogan is “For the One Life we live”
•this slogan emphasises that they do not belief in an afterlife or any supernatural realms. It underscores the idea that humans only have one life therefore encouraging them to focus on making the most of their current existence, valuing life experiences, relationships and ethical choices rather than relying on the promise of an afterlife.
How might the humanist view impact their lives?
As they believe they only have one life, there is no opportunity for second chances so they would try to make the most of this life by donating to charity for example
Why might the humanist argument for a life after death be weak?
•people might argue that near death experiences prove there is an afterlife after death
•Dr. Sam Parina studied revived heart attack patients and discovered that some retained awareness beyond clinical death, suggesting potential post-death consciousness.
