What do Jews believe about the afterlife?
•The Jewish Holy Book the Torah talks about an afterlife in which Jews will reunite with family members who have died
•They believe “olam ha ze” (life on earth) is preparation for what is to come in “olam ha-ba” (life after death) therefore Jews should follow mitzvot and cherish life during their life on earth in order to prepare. However this should be done as it is the right thing to do not out of hope for a reward in the after life
What proof is there to back up the Jewish view on after life?
•The Ethics of Father 1:3 says “Do not be like servants who serve the master in expectation of receiving a reward”
•this reminds Jews that serving God and folllowing mitzvot should be their main focus in life and it should not be done because of any desires to be rewarded in the afterlife
How might the Jewish belief in the after life impact their lives today?
Jewish people will try to live in a way that pleases God following mitzvot such as “do not kill” which were given directly by God to Moses
