Resultant forces Flashcards
What is the resultant force?
Overall force on a point or object.
How many forces act on a object along any direction?
2 forces.
The effect of the forces will decide what?
Motion of the object.
Accelerate, decelerate or stay at a steady speed.
If you have a number of single forces acting at a single point what can you do?
Replace them with a single force.
If the forces all act along the same line how is the overall effect found?
Adding or subtracting them.
What is the overall force you get called?
The resultant force.
If an object is stationary the forces are all…
Balanced.
The force of gravity/weight is acting…
Downwards.
What does gravity acting downwards cause?
A reaction force, from the surface pushing up on the object.
Without the reaction force what would happen?
The object would accelerate downwards due to pull of gravity.
What are forces measured in?
Newtons.
N.
What does a resultant force mean?
A change in velocity.
If a resultant force is acting on a object what will happen to the object?
It will change its state of rest or motion.
Change in objects velocity.
