Key Terms - A Flashcards
What is Acceleration?
Change of velocity per second.
m/s2.
What does Accuracy mean?
This tells us how near the true value a measurement is.
What is an Acid?
Sour substance which can attack metal, clothing or skin.
pH less than 7 when dissolved in water.
What is Activation energy?
Minimum energy needed to start off a reaction.
What is the Active site?
The site on an enzyme.
Where the reactants bind.
What is Activity?
Number of atoms of a radioactive substance that decay each second.
What is Aerobic respiration?
Breaking down food using oxygen to release energy for the cells.
What are Algal cells?
The cells of algae.
Single celled or simple multicelluar organisms.
They can photosynthesise but are not plants.
What is an Alkali?
Its solution has a pH of more than 7.
What is Allele?
Version of a particular gene.
What is Alpha radiation?
Alpha particles, each compromised with 2 protons and 2 neutrons.
Emitted by unstable nuclei.
What is an Alternating current?
Electric current in a circuit that repeatedly reverses its direction.
What is an Amino acid?
Building block of protein.
What is Amylase?
Enzyme made in the salivary glands and pancreas which speeds up the breakdown of starch into simple sugars.
What is Anaerobic respiration?
Breaking down food without oxygen to release energy for the cells.
