Restart Malfunctions Flashcards
Feather Button light is on following pressure cutout override action
Pull the Emergency shutdown handle. If the feather button light goes out, push in the emergency shutdown handle and continue the restart procedures. If the light does not go out, put the prop feather control circuit breaker and investigate.
Incomplete cutout may be caused by a prop fluid leak, stuck PCO button, or malfunctioning PCO circuitry.
After investigating, reset the prop feather control circuit breaker. If the system operates normally, continue the Restart procedure.
If the system does not operate normally, pull the prop feather control circuit breaker and complete the Emergency Shutdown procedure.
If blade angle/rotation is observed after pushing PCO
Execute the emergency shutdown procedure (Feather valve solenoid has failed.)
Feather valve light remains on steady after rpm has stabilized
A propeller fluid leak may exist. If fluid is visible or any other abnormal indications exist, the restart should be secured by 1.) pushing in the feather button and 2.) executing the Emergency Shutdown procedure.
No leak/overspeed, continue.
Stable rpm is usually 30-45%
NTS INOPER light illuminates
Continue holding out on the feather button and secure the engine with emergency shutdown handle. Push in the feather button after the emergency shutdown handle has been pulled.
Do NOT attempt an airstart.
If propeller does not rotate as blades unfeather
May be due to prop brake.
Push feather button in.
Use the engine starter until rotation begins. Pull the starter button, note air rise. Continue with step 3 of restart.
Premature light-off
Continue restart. Once engine is onspeed, turn FUEL AND IGNITION switch on and complete the In-Flight Restart checklist prior to troubleshooting.
(Likely Fuel and Ignition circuit breaker)
No oil pressure indicated (Normal Lightoff)
Secure with feather button
No light off within 10 seconds
Push in feather button. If desired an addition attempt may be made to start the engine using the same procedure. If not execute the Emergency Shutdown procedure.
Stand by to shut down engine with E-handle for:
- ) TIT exceeds 850C
- ) No oil pressure rising by 35% in the event of a premature lightoff
- ) Engine RPM stagnates or begins to decay
The PROP PUMP 1 light may come on momentarily when the feather button is released. If either or both PROP PUMP lights are not extinguished by:
55% rpm, continue the restart. The mission should be aborted
