NTS Procedures Flashcards
FE Setup Steps
NSWE
NTS Switch - Fx check
Sync Master and Sync Servo for engines being checked - Off
Wing Deice Switches - Open
Engine Anti-Ice - On
Pilot Setup
For gripe:
Altitude - 8,000 ft or below
Airspeed - 180 +- 10kts
General:
Airspeed at where you intend to restart
Check FE setup
Give FE Engine to check
NTS Check Steps (After Setup)
Horsepower - 800 SHP minimum
Engine Bleed Air switch - open
Power lever - retard slowly towards flight idle. After at idle and NTS initiated, call action and restore power
Clean up: Engine Bleed Air switch - close Engine anti-ice - as required Wing Deice - as required NTS Fx Valve Switch - NTS Check Sync System - As required
NTS Indications
Primary:
Stabilized RPM below mechanical propellor governing RPM but above 95% with power lever at flight idle
Secondary:
Initial and/or continued flashing of Fx valve light
Intial and/or continued negative horsepower within prescribed limits
Noticeable aircraft yaw in sync with NTS operation
Stuck NTS Plunger
Plunger extends but fails to retract when NTS clears. SHP will go positive and RPM will drop quickly
Pull E - Handle, could flame out with rapid TIT rise if RPM falls below 95%
Stuck Power Lever
Over Rotated Alpha Shaft or linkage problem
To correct:
Clean up NTS check to make engine more efficient
Speed up to get more ram air and fuel allowing NTS push rod to retract
If fails:
E-Handle
If E-handle fails:
Feather button
Overspeed During NTS Check
Caused by over rotated Alpha Shaft - Correct the same as stuck power lever
To correct:
Clean up NTS check to make engine more efficient
Speed up to get more ram air and fuel allowing NTS push rod to retract
If fails:
E-Handle
If E-handle fails:
Feather button
