Respiratory- Trachea Flashcards
what does the conchae of the nasal cavity do
Warms/humidifies air
describe inferior nasal concha
• Thin strip of bone
• Surrounded by blood vessels
o Blood warms air
• Cells surrounding gland different to BV
o Rounder, darker
o Mucus (goblet cells) > moisten + trap fine particles
Describe epithelium of respiratory:
pseudostratified columnar, ciliated w/ goblet, basal (base), brush cells
what does trachea bifurcate to
left/right primary bronchus
o Particles most get trapped in right (as ‘straighter’)
what jones c shaped cartilage together in trachea
annular ligaments
o Only complete ring of trachea
cycloid cartilage which wraps + protects larynx
how are the tops of the c’s joined together posteriorly in the trachea
trachealis m. (smooth muscle)
o Rings + muscle structure allows expansion
how is trachea innervated
, contraction via autonomic NS, (dilate in flight/fight, constrict in parasymp (posterior to lung root vagus- rec. laryngial nerve)
is trachea anterior to oesophagus
yas
describe layers of trachea
- Cartilage: chondrocytes (diff bone= concentric rings)
- Perichondrium (FCT) Either side of cartilage
- Submucosa: adipose
what are the small red cells directly adjacent to basement of trachea
lymphocytes= easy access too air inhaled)
• Mucus gland vs Serous gland of trachea
o Nuclei MG is squamous on basement membrane
• Serous nuclei is rounded, staining less
o SG cytoplasm brown, nucleus = light grey (= diff substances)
