Proximal GIT I Flashcards

1
Q

which muscle allows lips to move and what is it innervated by

A

• Orbicularis oris m. (muscle allows to move lips)

o Innervated by branches of facial nerve (7th cranial) (buccal & marginal mandibular).

2
Q

what are the blood supply of lips and why are they the length they are

A

o Blood supply by branches of facial artery (superior & inferior labial arteries).
• Both arteries long= bc need to move with face + head movements

3
Q

lips= internal vs external epithelium

A

External
= thinner outside bc inside (oral mucosa) up against teeth // thicker for protection
= Hair on outside chin

Internal
= thick strat squa
= glands > needs moist surface (lubricates to move teeth without teeth adhesion)
• Inner + top lip= keratinzed (= lubrication)

9
Q

what is the nerve that provides the tongue with sense

A

major branch of Trigeminal nerve (5)

o Also carries nerves from facial below tongue to glands (crinkled)= looks like pancreas glands

12
Q

describe fungiform papillae

A

• Larger than filiform
• On bottom (lighter areas)= taste buds
• Coming into crevice= serous gland
o Dissolves food or drink that gets stuck in crevice which then gets sucked into pore of taste receptor
• Allows taste buds to sample
o Taste buds at top= non ideal as would be easily damaged, cannot keep dissolved

14
Q

describe taste receptors

A
  • Multiple filaments that each open into poor
  • Each filament= has nerve fibre
  • Facial nerve takes taste to brain (timpani branch)

16
Q

4 parts of gland

A

acini
intercalated duct
striated duct
excretory duct

17
Q

types of acini (columnar)

A

o Red= serous (mid placed nucleus)

o Yellow = mucus (large cyto, low nucleus)

18
Q

characteristic of intercalated ducts

A

low cuboidal

19
Q

characteristic of striated duct

A

epithelium height increases to columnar (striated bc of infoldings of basal lamina= due SA for transport)

20
Q

characteristic of excretary duct

A

starified
