Cardio- Blood Flashcards
1
Q
5 types of leukocytes
A
neutrophil lymphocytes eosinophil monocyte basophil
2
Q
2 classifications of leukocytes
A
Granulocyte (neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils)
• All aprox 12-15mm, nuclei form lobes
Mononuclear (lymphocytes, monocytes)
• Absence of lobulated nuclei
3
Q
characteristics of a neutrophil
A
- 3-5 lobed nuclei
- # lobes inc with age
- Role: recognise foreign bodies and destroy
4
Q
characteristics of a eosinophils
A
- 2 lobe nuclei
- Phil= ‘Loving’ stain = red granules
- Role: response to parasites + other functions
5
Q
characteristics of a basophil
A
- 2-3 lobed nucleus (sometimes S shaped)
- Granules stain reddish- velvet
- Grainy cytoplasm
- Role: allergic responses (granules contain heparin and histamine)
6
Q
characteristics of a lymphocyte
A
- Larger single circular nucleus
- Light purple cytoplasm
- 5-15microm width
- Role: immune response, target specific foreign antigens
7
Q
characteristics of a monocyte
A
- Kidney shaped nucleus
- 12-15microm
8
Q
whats the kidney shaped cell
A
monocyte
9
Q
whats the large single nuclei cell
A
lymphocyte
10
Q
what the s shaped reddish velvet stain cell
A
basophil
11
Q
what the 2 lobe red stain cell
A
eosinohil
12
Q
whats the multi lobed cell
A
neutrophil
