Respiratory System Q3 Flashcards
What is the sac of the lungs?
pleural membranes
What happens if you puncture a lung?
The inner visceral layer will pull away from the parietal layer and collapse the lung.
ID 4 spaces indicated
What is the “root” of the lung and its function?
It is called the hilum and is an opening allowing bronchi, veins, and arteris to enter lung.
What is the costodiaphragmatic recess?
The bottom space of the lung that will disappear when you inhale and appear when you exhale. This can be a spot of concern for fluid buildup.
What are the nerves that provide the somatic innervation to the pariatel pluera?
intercostal nerves.
What spinal levels innervate the diaphragm?
C3 C4 C5 (keep the diaphragm alive)
The number of primary bronchi= ?
The number of secondary bronchi= ?
The number of primary bronchi = # lungs
The number of secondary bronchi = # lobes
More branching just mathes the lobular structure of the lungs.
What type of innervation is bronchodialation and bronchoconstriction?
Sympathetic= dialation T1
Parasympathetic= constriction vagus nerve
Why does the phrenic nerve refer pain but the intercostal nerves do not?
Phrenic nerve (mediastinal and diaphragmatic) is difficult to locate and are surfaces that are not with any other somatic information, thus the brain has a difficult time knowing what it is feeling. Where the intercostals are close to the surface and easily identifiable Aka in the same place.
