Respiratory System Picture Questions Flashcards
What is your diagnosis of the image below? Why?
Intrapulmonary bronchi because it has cartilage in the adventitia. It is differentiated from primary bronchi because alveoli are visible surrounding this bronchi (hence INTRApulmonary).
What is the circled structure? Explain why.
It is a bronchial artery because it has a round lumen due to higher pressure of systemic circulation and has smooth muscle.
What is the circled structure? Explain why.
It is a pulmonary artery. They are collapsed because the right ventricle does not cause high pressure in the pulmonary circulation. It is not a pulmonary vein because it is following a bronchiole, and pulmonary veins do not do that.
What is your diagnosis of the image below?
Intrapulmonary bronchus.
What is your diagnosis of the image? Explain.
Respiratory bronchiole. No cartilage, prominent muscularis mucosae.
Identify the cells indicated by the arrows. Do these cells have stem cell capability?
Club (Clara) cells. You can see the secretory granules and the cells are dome shaped. They have stem cell capability.
What is the name of the structures identified by the question marks?
Respiratory bronchioles.
What is the large structure seen at the center of the image? Explain. Ignore the arrows.
Respiratory bronchiole. It is surrounded by alveoli.
Name the cell type indicated at position “1” and the structure indicated at position “2.”
- Type 2 pneumocyte
- Pore of Kuhn
Name the structure on the left (indicated by the arrow), and the structures pointed to on the right.
Left is a pulmonary artery because it follows a bronchi. Right are pulmonary veins. They don’t follow bronchi and are surrounded by alveoli.
Note: Bronchial vessels run within the walls of bronchi.
Is the section below representative of conducting, or respiratory epithelium?
Conducting.
Which slide (upper vs. lower) is taken from the olfactory epithelium? Explain.
Upper is olfactory because of the thick ciliated columnar cells and serous glands (Bowman).
What is the name of the structures outlined in yellow below?
Bowman glands (serous) in the olfactory submucosa.
What is your diagnosis? Explain.
Trachea because the lamina propria is continuous with the submucosa. No muscularis mucosae.
What are the cells at the arrows?
Type 2 pneumocytes.
