Q

Short Term Effects of Exercise

A

1) Breathing rate increases to take in more oxygen and exhale more carbon dioxide
2) Tidal Volume increases
3) EPOC (oxygen debt created if work done anaerobically)

Q

Long Term Effects of Exercise

A

1) Vital Capacity increases as you can breath in more air
2) Takes shorter time to pay off oxygen debt
3) Oxygen debt only created when heavier work is done

Q

When Inspiring

A

1) The diaphragm flattens and falls
2) Intercostal muscles contract towards the walls of the body
3) Ribs move outwards and upwards
4) Air Pressure inside the lungs decrease

This leads to a large area for oxygen to come as well as the need to even pressures.

Q

When Expiring

A

1) Diaphragm relaxes and pushes up
2) Intercostal muscles relax, falling inwards
3) Ribs move down and inwards
4) Air Pressure in the lungs

This leads to air being forced out of your lungs
