Respiratory System Flashcards
1
Q
Respiration
A
- Ventilation of lungs
- Exchanges of gases b/n 1) air and blood, 2) blood and tissue fluid
- Use of O2 in cellular metabolism
2
Q
Emphysema
A
- alveolar WALL BREAKDOWN
- less compliant lungs, air not efficiently moved in or out
- total surface area decreases
3
Q
Chronic bronchitis
A
- causes mucus-producing cells to make alot of MUCUS, cilia immobilized and decrease in number
4
Q
Asthma
A
- allergen triggers histamine release, intense bronchoconstriction
5
Q
Pnuemonia
A
- lower respiratory tract infection; filling of alveoli with fluid, dead leukocytes, thickening of respiratory membrane, hypoxemia
6
Q
TB
A
mycobacterium tuberculosis, invades lungs and stimulates formation of fibrous nodules of immune cells around TB bacteria (?), scarring of lungs, decrease in lung compliance
7
Q
ventilation
A
air that reaches the alVeoli
8
Q
perfusion
A
air that reaches the blood
- red purse
9
Q
What causes oxygen to have less affinity for hemoglobin, so that it can be unloaded to the tissues?
A
High temperature and acidic.
