inflammation and swelling of the mucous membrane of the nose
sinusitis
inflammation of the tissues in the sinuses (spaces in the forehead, cheeks, and nose usually filled with air)
epistaxis
bleeding from the nose
tonsilitis
inflammation of the tonsils
pharyngitis
an infection or irritation of the pharynx and/or tonsils
nasopharyngeal carcinoma
a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the nasopharynx
laryngitis
an inflammation of your voice box (larynx) from overuse, irritation, or infection
epiglottis
inflammation and swelling of the epiglottis. It’s often caused by an infection but can also sometimes happens as a result of a throat injury (this is a medical emergency)
dyspnea
intense tightening in the chest, difficulty in breathing
cyanosis
the bluish-purple hue of the skin
acute bronchitis
inflammation (swelling) and irritation of the bronchial tubes.
- acute: usually develops from a respiratory infection such as a cold
- chronic: is a more serious condition that develops over time.
bronchial asthma
a condition in which your airways (bronchi) narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus
pulmonary edema
a condition caused by too much fluid in the lungs
