Respiratory System Flashcards
What is Respiratory system and how does it work?
An organ system that provides oxygen to the cells and removes carbon dioxide from the body. Main purpose is to exchange gases. Breathing brings air in and out of the lungs, so that gas exchange can occur.
Including parts?
Nasal cavity, mouth, trachea, bronchi, lungs, diaphragm
Trachea? (air intake)
Contains many epithelial cells that have hair like projections called cillia
Path of Oxyegn
- Breathe in oxygen in either nose or mouth
- Oxygen close down throat or laryna (vocal cord)
- Oxygen flows on trachea
- Then through bronchi
- Then into alveoli the little sacs of gas
- Gas exchange occurs
- Carbon dioxide goes back up the way the oxygen went in and breathe out.
Gas exchange?
Air sacs are called alvoil, and air goes through the thin wall of it and spreads Energy to the rest of the body.
The issue/diseases in respiratory system?
-SARS/Covid
-Pneumonia: information of Alve
-Smoking and Vaping: chemicals that cause lung and heart disease
-Bronchitis: get thicker and full of mucus.
-Tuberculosis: bacteria getting into the lungs and spreading to whole body.
