Cell cycle Flashcards
Cells divide in order for organisms to…
Reproduce, grow, repair damage
What is a single cell?
one parent and asexual reproducction
what is a multicellular cell?
two parent and sexual reproduction
Why do cells divide?
To heal and repair tissue, to replace dead cells, to ensure organism growth.
What’s the cell theory?
-Living things made up of cells
-Cell is simplest unit and carry out all life processes
-all cells are reproduced from other cells
Whats Prokaryotes?
Simplest lifeforms, single cells with no nuclear, and an example is bacterium.
Whats Eukaryotes?
More complex organisms, single, or multi celled organisms with nucleus, and an example is plants and animals.
Function and structure of cells?
Perform certain basic activities to stay alive, activities performed by organelles, each one has a certain function, organelles work together to meet their life needs of the cell.
What does each cell division produce?
Two Identical daughter cells.
What are the three stages of the cell cycle?
- Interphase- most time spent in this stage and prepare for division
- Mitosis- the four parts
3.Cytokinesis- Division of Cytokinesis
What is a chromosomes?
I thread like structure in nucleus, contains genetic info, Each chromosomes is made up of two sister chromatids, chromatids is two identical strands of DNA.
What is a Centromere?
structure that holds two identical sister chromatids together
