Digestive system?
Organ system that takes in Food, Digests it, executes remaining waste. Made up of digestive tract and accessory organs
What are the digestive track?
Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus.
Mouth task?
Break down food
Whats esophagus?
a muscular tube connecting your mouth to stomach.
What the stomach task?
Stores food & churns
Intestine?
lining contains mucus, fine blood vessels and smooth muscle. villi on small intestine tract to increase surface area for absorption of nutrients.
Small Intestine?
6cm long, narrow, nutrients diffuse through the wall into blood stream. Contains vili and goblet cells to seperate muscous nutrients.
Large intestine?
-also called colon, 1.5m long and large in diameter, narrow.
-water is absorbed through the wall
-contains villi, goblet cells that secrete mucous
-nutrients diffuse of the wall of the small intestine into blood stream.
-absorbs electrolytes and water
What are the accessory organs?
Liver, Pancreas, Gall Bladder
Liver?
produces bile that helps you break down fat and help eliminate toxins
Pancreas?
Produces insulin that regulates the concentration of sugar levels in blood
Gall Bladder?
Stores bile
Common issues in digestive?
-Food poisoning
-Colitis: epithelial tissue of the colon becomes inflamed and stops working properly
-Irritable bowel syndrome: chronic or long term problem causing bloating, gas, diarrhea, and constipation
