Plants and Animal cells Flashcards
Prokaryotes
Simplest life forms, Single-cell life forms and has no nucleus. ex bacterium.
Eukaryotes
Complex organisms, may be single celled or multi celled organisms with nucleus. ex plants and animals
Cell membrane
Separate inside of cell from external environment, and controls flow of materials in and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm
Includes the organelles and yeah, other life supporting materials. for example, sugar, water all contain by cell membrane
Golgi Body
Sorts and packages, proteins, and other molecules for transport out of cell
Nucleus
Control activities and contains genetic info. Info is stored in chromosomes, which contain DNA acid, this substance contains all coded instructions for cell activity.
Nucleolus
Area with a nucleus that creates ribosomes and rna transcription.
Ribosomes
helps produce protein, makes up cell structure, required activities for cell surivial
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Network of membrane covered channels that transport materials made in cell and is connected to nucleus. CONTAINS RIBOSOMES MAKING IT ROUGH
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Network of membrane covered channels that transport materials made in cell and is connected to nucleus. CONTAINS NO RIBOSOMES MAKING SMOOTH
Mitochondria
Cell powerhouse and acts like digestive system. Takes a nutrient and breaks it down and creates energy, rich fuel for cell.
Chloroplasts (only in plant cells)
Food producers of cell, convert light into energy, then sun into food. It’s responsible for green colour of plants.
Lysosomes
holds enzymes, and digest things
Cell wall
walls made out of cellulose. Cell walls provide support, strength, and protection for plants and help plants hold their shape
