Throat
What is the larynx
Voice box
What is respiration
Exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide
What monitors bloods carbon dioxide levels
Brain stem (medulla oblongotta)
What is anaphylaxis
Severe allergic reaction
What is acute pulmonary edema
Heart can’t circulate blood properly
Fluid builds up within alveoli in lung tissue
What is chronic obstruction pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Slow process of dilation and disruption of airways and alveoli
- Caused by chronic bronchial obstruction
- Fourth leading cause of death
- Tobacco smoke can create chronic bronchitis.
What are wet lung sounds caused by
Pulmonary edema
What are dry lung sounds caused by
COPD
What is a lumen?
Opening in the airway
What is spontaneous Pneumothorax
Accumulated air in the chest
What is dyspneic/dyspnea
Difficulty breathing
What is pleural effusion
Collection of fluid outside the lung
What is pulmonary embolism
•Passage of blood clot formed in vein into pulmonary artery
–Circulation cut off partially or completely
–Becomes lodged
–Significantly decreases blood flow
–If large enough, can cause sudden death
What is hemoptysis
Coughing up blood
