What is SARS?
Severe acute respiratory syndrome
Begins with flulike symptoms
May progress to pneumonia, respiratory failure, and, in some cases, death
What is Hepatitis C caused by?
Cirrhosis of the liver
What is hepatitis A caused by?
Food
What are two medicines you give to a patient with chest pain?
Aspirin
Nitroglycerin
How many baby aspirins do you give a patient?
4 tablets (324mg) (1 tablet is 81mg)
What does aspirin do?
Prevents platelets from clotting
What are three contraindications of aspirin?
Unconscious
Allergic
Have a bleeding ulcer

What do you give to a patient who is diabetic?
Glucose
What does glucose do?
Raises blood sugar
How much glucose do you give a patient?
The whole tube
What are two contraindications of oral glucose?
If they are unconscious or can’t swallow
What do you give the patient who is in anaphylaxis shock?
Epi pen
How long do you hold the Epi pen in the skin
10 seconds
What is another name for epinephrine?
Adrenalin
Where do you give the shot for the Epi pen?
The thigh
What do you give a patient with poisoning or overdose?
Activated charcoal
How much of activated charcoal do you give an adult and child

What does activated charcoal do?
It adsorbs to the poison (binds to it so you puke)
What do you give to a patient with asthma?
Albuterol or an MDI (meter dose inhaler)
How much oxygen do you use with albuterol?
6-8 liters
What do you see come out with albuterol

What does albuterol do?
Opens the airway
Why is nitroglycerin carried in a brown bottle?
It is sensitive to sunlight

What does nitroglycerin do?
Dialates blood vessels

Where do you give the patient nitroglycerin?
Under the tongue (sublingual)

How many times can you give nitroglycerin to a patient and how far apart?
Maximum of 3 times at least five minutes apart

If patient used erectile dysfunction drugs within 72 hours
