What are two other names for the laryngotracheal diverticulum?
The respiratory diverticulum and lung bud
When does the laryngotracheal diverticulum form?
During the 4th week
Is the trachea anterior or posterior to the esophagus?
Anterior
What does the laryngotracheal diverticulum grow out of?
The foregut endoderm
What is the purpose of the tracheoesophageal folds?
To separate the trachea and esophagus. If they weren’t separated, food would get stuck!
What do the tracheoesophageal folds do?
They fuse at the midline and form a tracheoesophageal septum
When is the tracheoesophageal septum formed?
week 5
What does the larynx come from? What pharyngeal arch?
Laryngotracheal groove - foregut endoderm. 6th pharyngeal arch
What is the purpose of the bilateral arytenoid swellings in the 6th pharyngeal arch?
They form cartilage.
What makes up the arytenoid cartilage?
They are endoderm covering NC cells
What is another name for the hypobranchial eminence?
The hypopharyngeal eminence
Where is the hypobranchial eminence aka the hypo pharyngeal eminence found (pharyngeal arch)
4th pharyngeal arch
What does the hypo brachial eminence give rise to?
The epiglottis
