Respiratory diseases Flashcards
What are the 2 types of disorder classifications
restrictive - lung volume decreases
obstructive - amount of air that can get to lung in decreased
salt water vs freshwater drowning
freshwater - water washes away coating on alveoli which then collapse
saltwater - fluid enter lungs, hypertonic environment stops oxygen from entering bloodstream
What is tonsillitis
infection of the tonsil
if too many infections then they can be removed
What part does the common cold affect
the upper respiratory tract
Types of bronchitis
Acute and chronic
Acute is caused by bact and treated with anitbiotic
chronic is caused by smoking, when the cilia get damaged, long term
airways get inflamed
Where does bronchitis affect you
in the bronchi
too much mucus or they get swollen
What does pneumonia affect
alveoli get filled with liquid
result is not enough oxygen
lobar vs bronchial pnemonia
lobar affect on lobe of the lung
bronchial can affect diff parts throughout both lungs
what is pleurisy and what does if affect
inflammation of the pleura
sac surrounding lungs, one side touches lungs other side touches ribcage
not a disease but a symptom of something else
what part does emphysema affect
alveolar walls, they break down and lose elasticity
cause of emphysema and treatment
smoking, is untreatable, chronic
surgery to remove bad part of lung
oxygen tank
Cause of cystic fibrosi
genetic
abnormal gene causes extra mucus
mucus attracts bacteria
What part does cystic fibrosis affect
alveoli
what part does asthma affect
bronchi and bronchioles
bronchioles tighten, breathing gets hard, mucus is made
causes of asthma
pollen, dust, smoke, pets, exercise
genetic
