Respiratory Disease Flashcards
1
Q
Causes: obstruction (asthma, laryngeal paralysis), restrictive (pneumonia, obesity), upper airway disorders (laryngeal paralysis, BOAS, tumours, collapse) Lower airway disorders (asthma, pneumonia, neoplasia, oedema), extrapulmonary/thoracic wall disease
Clinical signs: hypoxaemia (low FiO2, hypoventilation, diffusion impairments, ventilation-perfusion mismatch, right to left shunts)
Concerns: inhale/exhale issues, decreased lung capacity, hyperthermia, stress, fasting, IV access, ventilation
Drug interactions: caution with full mu opioids, lower dose sedatives, benzos = excitability =worse resp distress, low IVFT rates.
