Respiratory/cardiovascular system Flashcards
what is the goal of the respiratory system
Deliver oxygen to the blood & tissues and remove carbon dioxide from the blood back into the atmosphere
what is the goal of the cardiovascular system
Transport of nutrients, oxygen, and hormones throughout body to the cells and removal of waste
arteries
deliver oxygenated blood to the rest of the body - AWAY from the heart
veins
carry deoxygenated blood back to the lungs/heart - TO THE LUNGS/Heart
do arteries or veins have a valve
veins
where does O2 go
From lungs to bloodstream to cells
how does O2 diffuse
Inhalation and circulation to tissues via blood vessels/capillaries
what is the goal of O2 diffusion
Oxygen needed by all cells for cellular respiration
where does CO2 go
From cells to bloodstream to lungs
how does CO2 diffuse
Circulation from tissues via veins to lungs - exhalation
what is the goal of CO2 diffusion
CO2 is a byproduct of cellular respiration. It needs to be removed from the body.
