RARE HOG Flashcards
First R
response to environment/stimulus: living things respond to their environment. if the environment changes, living things react to that change.
A
Evolutionary Adaptation: living things change over time. populations of living things adapt to their environment.
Second R
Reproduction: all living things reproduce; give rise to more life.
E
Energy processing: living things obtain and use energy found in materials from their environment.
H
Regulation/Homeostasis: living things try to maintain a stable internal environment.
O
Order/Cells: living things are organized. there is a universal genetic code among all living things: DNA. all living things are made of one or more cells. a cell is the basic unit of life. organisms with many cells organize them into tissues, organs, systems etc. even single celled organisms have a cell with internal parts and functions.
G
Growth and development: All living things grow; either by making more cells, or replacing parts within one cell. living things develop over their lifetime.
