Measles: how transmitted and prevented:
-MMR vaccine prevents; subcutaneous, 0.5 ml
-It is an airborne disease, respiratory, coughing and sneezing
Pertussis: signs and symptoms
dry hacking cough
Asthma: symptoms of a child that has a deterioration, asthma attack
expiratory wheezing,
SOB,
restlessness,
nasal flaring,
grunting,
chest retractions,
wheezing and dry cough,
Prolonged expiration, fatigue, tachypnea, cyanosis, marked respiratory distress, barrel chest (sudden cessation of wheezing and decreased breath sounds indicates worsening)
Diagnosis of asthma

* PFT- SHOWS SEVERITY OF ASTHMA
Bronchiolitis: symptoms, biggest problem, virus that causes it
worsening of an upper respiratory tract infection with tachypnea, retractions, grunting, nasal flaring, nasal drainage (clogs up the airway, need for suctioning),
mucus buildup= main problem
RVS causes it
older infants may have a frequent, dry cough, lungs reveal wheezing or crackles, low grade fever, anorexia, thick nasal secretions, increasingly labored breathing
Cystic Fibrosis: when and why to take pancreatic enzymes
Administer pancreatic enzymes with all meals and snacks, give enzymes swallowed whole or sprinkled on food, take enzymes for fat absorption
Cleft Palate repair and post op: things you want to tell parents about post op
Tell parents: can breastfeed
-Position on side or back (supine) after surgery,
-cool mist tent, blended diet,
-elbow restraints 4-6 weeks to prevent pulling stitches,
-no straws, pacifiers,
- no spoons or fingers in or around mouth for 7- 10 days,
-no oral temperatures

Assess for frequent swallowing or throat clearing; may be a sign of bleeding
How to help a child splint when hurts when they cough?
use a stuffed animal, lay on affected side
