Post- op GI surgery
What should you remember for post op
Give electrolytes (Mg, Calcium)
*Think about where all your nutrients come from GI so now post op they need to be replaced
Celiac disease and their diet
no gluten: good foods: rice, corn, egg, etc (baked chicken and corn tortilla)
Vomiting: how we treat in children, infants, toddlers?
requires no specific treatment unless complications occur: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, aspiration
Pyloric Stenosis symptoms in an infant
projectile vomiting and a moveable olive shaped mass in epigastrium
GERD: treatment, post op gastrointestinal surgery and how we keep those children hydrated:
-elevate HOB for 1 hour after feed,
-have baby sit up (chair/swing),
-PPIs, SSRs; omeprazole,
-avoid foods that cause reflux (citrus, caffeine),
-weight control,
-small frequent meals,
-thickened feeds
Diabetes Mellitus: treatment of type 1 DM versus type 2

2: exercise, healthy foods, managing weight, diet, insulin
Symptoms of hypoglycemia?
fast heartbeat,
shaking,
sweating and pallor,
nervousness or anxiety,
