Respiratory Flashcards
What is part of the upper respiratory system?
Nose, Pharynx (consists of nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx), larynx
What is part of the lower respiratory airway?
Trachea, bifurcates at the Carina(T4), left and right bronchus, lobar bronchi, segmental bronchi, terminal bronchioles, respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts, alveolar sacs
Where does the trachea bifurcate?
At T4
What is the conducting part of the respiratory tract?
Nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, left and right bronchus, lobar bronchi, segmental bronchi, terminal bronchioles
What is the respiratory region of the resp tract?
Respiratory bronchioles, alveolar duct, alveolar sacs
Where does the carotid artery bifurcate?
At C4, into the internal & external carotid arteries
What is the membrane covering the lungs called & what is it?
Pleura - specialised mesothelium
What are the layers of the lungs?
Alveoli
Visceral-lung surface, autonomic innervation
Intra Pleural space-pleural fluid, prevent friction
Parietal-outer-internal chest- has pain sensation via phrenic
How thick is each layer of the pleura?
Each is a single layer of cells
What is respiratory epithelium?
Pseudo-stratified, ciliated, columnar epithelium with interspersed goblet cells
